Victor Wembanyama agreed to a five-year, $252 million maximum extension with the San Antonio Spurs. The deal includes a player option in the final year.
Wembanyama took the 25% max. He passed on the 30% supermax that could have reached $303 million. That choice leaves close to $50 million unclaimed and gives San Antonio more room to build around him.
The extension ranks third on the all-time list for rookie extensions. Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley each signed for $269 million. Wembanyama is 22. Shams Charania reported the deal on July 10.
