THE STORY 🗞️

The committee went with Miami at No. 1, and nobody should argue. The Hurricanes are 8-0 and have only been pushed by Florida State and North Carolina.

Georgia sits second despite a loss to 4-4 Auburn, because a win over Alabama and another over ranked Florida carried more weight. Utah is third with a win over No. 17 Houston. Indiana, the defending national champion, holds the last bye at 8-1, with its only loss to Ohio State.

That is the strangest part of the board. Ohio State beat Indiana but sits eight spots behind the Hoosiers after last week's loss to USC. Under this season's format the top four get byes whether or not they win their league, and the Buckeyes would be the first team left out.

Alabama's head-to-head win over Kentucky put the Tide at No. 5, one spot ahead of the Wildcats. UCLA is unbeaten and only eighth. Notre Dame is in at No. 11 with no ranked wins and a loss to BYU. Boise State came in five spots below its AP ranking but still holds the automatic Group of 6 place.

OUR TAKE 🐶

Seven ranked-on-ranked games on Saturday means this board will look very different next Tuesday. Miami at Notre Dame is the big one: a Miami win keeps the No. 1 seed in hand, and an Irish loss would likely knock them out of the projected field.
