The 2-2 Tie was such an entertaining game of Football with a 99th Minute thriller from a Dominik Szoboslai penalty!

The first goal was a 21 Yard quality goal scored by Anthony Elanga assisted by William Osula for Newcastle United in the 5th Minute. The goal was followed by a subpar miss by Ryan Gravenberch with a clear and obvious opportunity to score and instead passed it across the 16 yard box and lost possession of the ball, which highly contributed to the goal.

The second goal was scored by Cody Gakpo which was a 35 Yard low driven ROCKET to Tie the game In the 55th minute. Cody gakpo has recently been rumoured with Tottenham Hotspur and could potentially leave for a fee upwards of £70m

The third goal was scored by Joe Willock just mere minutes after in the 57th minute from 23 yards out to put Newcastle ahead by 1. Making the score 2-1.

The fourth and final goal was scored by Dominik Szoboslai in the 99th minute to claw back a Liverpool tie and get them 1 point.

Alexander Isak. 🇸🇪

Alexander Isak had quite of an underwhelming performance today, could that be due to the fact he is playing against his old club at their home ground? Could he just not be in form at the moment? Here is our opinion.

We understand that the system Andoni Iraola utilises is widely agreed upon by all Liverpool fans as “The Liverpool way” and that Isak can work very well in this system. The issue is that Isak requires 2 very speedy wingers or Left and Right Midfielders to feed him through balls so he can get in behind the defensive line and score first touch rockets. Rio Ngumoha playing on the Right could be the reason Isak did not work well today (Read more HERE)

Alisson Becker — 6/10

Becker made 3 saves, but conceded twice from only five shots on target and finished at -0.69 goals prevented. That is a poor number for a goalkeeper of Alisson's level. Neither goal was an outrageous howler, but statistically he saved less than the average keeper would have been expected to. FotMob gave him 6.0, which feels perfect.

Jeremie Frimpong — 6/10

Frimpong had 65 touches, but turned all that involvement into just 1 shot and 0.09 xA, while winning only 2 duels. He was supposed to give Liverpool width and attacking threat and simply didn't provide enough of either. Also booked. FotMob's 6.7 flatters the performance.

Jérémy Jacquet — 6.5/10

Probably one of the more respectable Liverpool performances considering the circumstances. Won 4 duels and generally avoided major individual errors before going off after 70 minutes. Didn't dominate, but he also wasn't the reason Liverpool looked vulnerable. FotMob rated him 7.0; I'd come down slightly.

Virgil van Dijk — 7/10

Liverpool conceded twice, but Van Dijk personally did a lot of cleaning up, recording 14 defensive interventions and winning 5 duels. He was also a threat from set pieces with 2 shots and 0.21 xG. Not flawless, but comfortably one of Liverpool's better defensive performers. FotMob: 7.1.

Milos Kerkez — 4/10

The raw work rate was there with 8 defensive interventions and 6 duels won, but the actual defensive security wasn't. Newcastle repeatedly found space in areas Liverpool's full-backs should have controlled, and Kerkez was also booked. Two shots going forward don't make up for an erratic overall display. FotMob gave him a whopping 6.3.

Ryan Gravenberch — 6

Got the assist for Gakpo and was one of Liverpool's more functional midfielders. He recorded 4 duels won and directly contributed to the equaliser, although his assist came from only 0.05 xA, so Gakpo deserves most of the credit for turning it into a goal. Additionally, Gravenberch directly contributed to the first Newcastle goal. He worked well rather than great. FotMob rated him a 7.4.

Dominik Szoboszlai — 7.5/10

Had 85 touches, 3 shots, 0.27 xA and ultimately had the nerve to bury the 99th-minute penalty. The goal obviously changes how his night is remembered, but it shouldn't completely disguise a Liverpool midfield that was far from dominant. Still, when the game demanded someone to take responsibility, he did and we must also take into note he was being played as a defensive midfielder when he is a CAM or a Right Back. FotMob rates him a 8.0 which feels about right.

Florian Wirtz — 6/10

This wasn't enough from Liverpool's main creator. He managed 3 shots, but produced just 0.04 xA and was taken off after 63 minutes with Liverpool chasing the game. For someone whose job is largely to unlock teams, almost no chance creation is a problem. FotMob's 7.1 feels considerably too kind.

Rio Ngumoha — 6/10

Barely got into the game. Only 21 touches, 1 shot, 0 shots on target and 0.02 xA before being removed after 63 minutes. Young player, difficult environment, fair enough but judged purely on this match, he had almost no influence. FotMob: 6.4.

Cody Gakpo — 8.5/10 🏅

Liverpool's best player. Scored from only 0.24 xG, took 6 shots, won 6 duels and even registered 6 defensive interventions. He was one of the few Liverpool attackers consistently making things happen rather than simply circulating possession. FotMob made him Player of the Match at 8.4, and that's entirely justified.

Alexander Isak — 6/10

This is where the stats have to be treated brutally. Isak had 1.02 xG, took shots, put 2 on target and scored zero. A striker getting more than one expected goal and leaving without scoring has wasted enough quality to materially hurt his team. The movement to generate chances was good; the finishing wasn't. FotMob's 6.7 is far too forgiving for me.

Alexis Mac Allister — 6/10

Won 4 duels after coming on and helped Liverpool regain some control, but offered essentially nothing creatively with 0.01 xA. Solid enough without actually changing the game. FotMob: 6.6.

Víctor Muñoz — 7/10

Only had 16 touches, but ultimately produced one of the most important contributions of the game by winning the stoppage-time penalty. Also managed 2 shots despite limited minutes. Not a dominant cameo, but he directly created the situation that rescued Liverpool a point. FotMob: 6.7, which undersells his impact.

Ronald Araújo — 6/10

Won 4 duels and made 3 defensive interventions after replacing Jacquet. Didn't noticeably improve Liverpool's defensive structure, but didn't commit any glaring mistake either. Fairly uneventful. FotMob: 6.5.

Lewis Koumas — 5.5/10

Suggested rating: 5.5/10

Played just enough including stoppage time to qualify, but managed only 5 touches. One shot at least gave him something to show for the cameo, but he was essentially a passenger for most of his time on the pitch. FotMob: 6.3.

Lukáš Horníček — 8/10

Made 5 saves from seven shots on target and finished with approximately +0.72 goals prevented. Liverpool generated enough quality to score more than twice and Horníček is a major reason they didn't. One of Newcastle's best performers. FotMob: 7.8.

Amar Dedić — 6.5/10

Produced 8 defensive interventions and won 5 duels, which is solid work against a Liverpool side that had 61% possession. Didn't offer much going forward, but he largely did the defensive job he was asked to do. FotMob: 6.5.

Malick Thiaw — 6.5/10

Recorded a huge 16 defensive interventions, which shows how much defending Newcastle had to do. Only winning 3 duels tempers that somewhat, and Liverpool still generated 2.98 xG, so this wasn't some defensive masterclass. Busy and useful rather than dominant. FotMob: 6.3.

Sven Botman — 6.5/10

Another centre-back forced into a massive workload with 13 defensive interventions. Newcastle conceded twice and allowed 27 shots, so giving any centre-back an enormous score would be silly, but Botman did enough individually to avoid much blame. FotMob: 6.6.

Lewis Hall — 7.5/10

One of Newcastle's best all-round performances. Made 17 defensive interventions, won 5 duels, generated 0.35 xA and created 1 big chance. That's genuine contribution at both ends rather than empty activity. The late penalty foul is the obvious stain and ultimately cost Newcastle two points, which stops this going higher. FotMob: 7.2.

Lewis Miley — 7.5/10

Did a lot of the ugly work Newcastle needed. Registered 10 defensive interventions and won 5 duels while Liverpool controlled most of the possession. Booked, but otherwise an excellent defensive midfield performance for the time he was on. FotMob: 7.5.

Sean Steur — 5.5/10

Played 56 minutes and left almost no statistical footprint: 0 shots, no meaningful chance creation and only 1 defensive intervention. In a frantic midfield battle, he was remarkably uninvolved. FotMob: 6.1.

Harvey Barnes — 5.5/10

An attacker playing the entire match needs to contribute more than 1 shot, 0.06 xG and 0.02 xA. Newcastle scored twice and Barnes was barely involved in either their chance creation or finishing. Very quiet. FotMob's 6.6 is generous.

Anthony Elanga — 8/10

Scored after five minutes, put both of his shots on target and converted from just 0.11 xG. That's ruthless finishing. Also won 5 duels before coming off. Didn't rack up huge volume, but when Newcastle needed a decisive attacking moment he supplied it. FotMob: 7.8.

Yoane Wissa — 7.5/10

A strange one. He missed enough chances to accumulate 0.94 xG without scoring, which is poor finishing, but he also assisted Willock and won an enormous 11 duels. Extremely involved, extremely physical, but should probably have scored himself. FotMob: 7.6.

William Osula — 7/10

Only played 56 minutes but still supplied the assist for Elanga and created 1 big chance. That's meaningful end product in limited time. Newcastle didn't need him to dominate the ball; they needed him to make their transitions count, and he did. FotMob: 7.1.

Jacob Ramsey — 5.5/10

Had 25 touches, won only 2 duels, created little and picked up a yellow card shortly after coming on. Didn't offer Newcastle enough control or attacking threat during a period when Liverpool were starting to push harder. FotMob: 6.4.

Joe Willock — 8/10

Came on and scored almost immediately with his only shot, then also created 1 big chance. That's exactly what you want from a substitute: immediate, tangible impact. He couldn't have done much more with the opportunities he received. FotMob: 7.4, and I'd comfortably go higher.

Jacob Murphy — 5/10

Only 7 touches, no shots, no chances created and a yellow card. Came on to help Newcastle see the game out and contributed almost nothing before Liverpool eventually equalised. FotMob: 6.0.

Aladji Bamba — 6/10

Only touched the ball 5 times, which is almost comically low, but did at least win 2 duels and make 2 defensive interventions. Essentially spent the cameo defending rather than playing football. Did the bare minimum asked of him. FotMob: 6.3.
