NFL · WEEK 8 · INJURY NEWS

KEY STATS 📊

  • Final: Bills 36, Ravens 10, in Orchard Park

  • Lamar Jackson: right thumb surgery, going on IR after one offensive play

  • Earliest return: Week 14 at Tampa Bay on 13 December

  • Josh Allen: 21 of 34, 289 yards, 2 TDs, and the Bills record for career touchdown passes

  • Records: Bills 6-1 (three straight wins), Ravens 4-4 (three straight losses)

THE STORY 🗞️

Lamar Jackson's return lasted one offensive play. The Ravens quarterback will have surgery on his right thumb and go on injured reserve, coach Jesse Minter said after Baltimore's 36-10 loss at Buffalo on Sunday.

Jackson's throwing hand hit Greg Rousseau's wrist on Baltimore's first snap. The thumb was knocked out of place and he left immediately. He had just missed three games with a left ankle injury.

❝

"That'll be a surgery deal. He'll go to IR. That's a tough deal."

Jesse Minter, Ravens head coach

Asked whether the injury could end Jackson's season, Minter said: "Potentially. We'll see where it goes." A trip to IR means at least four games out, which puts the earliest possible return at Week 14 at Tampa Bay on 13 December.

It got worse from there. Backup Tyler Huntley left with a toe injury, and rookie Joe Fagnano finished the game. Buffalo took full advantage. Josh Allen went 21 of 34 for 289 yards and two touchdowns and passed the franchise record for career touchdown passes, and the Bills won their third straight to move to 6-1.

OUR TAKE 🐶

This is the worst-case version of Baltimore's season. The Ravens are 4-4, have lost three in a row, and now face at least a month without the quarterback the whole offense is built around, with the backup banged up too.

The schedule gives them no time to adjust. Baltimore plays again on Thursday night.

THE BETTING ANGLE 🎯

Huntley's toe is now the injury to watch. If he cannot go on a short week, Baltimore could start a rookie on Thursday night, and that changes how this game gets priced. For our analysts' takes, follow DawgHousePicks.
